2016 Tigertown "Exciting Post Race Wrap-up!

The Tigertown 5000 brought in over  “500” athletes from the USA with “international” flavor which perfect weather conditions at race time proved to be one,  if not the “fastest” race course in the midwest United States. With a “battle” for the lead throughout the 3.1 mile course by American runner Evan Gaynor against Kenyan Julius Kiptoo and two other fellow Kenyan runners exchanging leads it was a “winner takes all at the finish” as even with a 10 meter lead with 100 meters left in the race Julius Kiptoo claimed victory with a breath taking finish of 14:41, that the computer timing  had to decide ! Race director Doug Desgrange was standing near the finish and watched it all unfold “It was very intense and exciting even though I seen Evan’s legs wobble as he gave it all he had!” “I thought he had it and was very surprised when I saw the final results!” The computer chip timing system was the deciding factor with Kiptoo taking Gaynor by fractions of a second!
This wasn’t the “only” excitement at Tigertown that day as there was “course record” money at stake sponsored by One Main Financial, The Henry County Bank and Ag Credit. On the women’s side, Tewabech Demse of Ethiopia smashed the previous Tigertown record set in 2012 by Dorcus Chesang of Kenya of 16:54 in a “record time” of 16:12 ! “ It was something to see the crowd come “alive” that lined the streets cheering for her” says Desgrange. For Demse’s outstanding finish time she took home a cash prize of $400.
“I knew we had a professional field of athletes coming” Desgrange goes on “These runners are a different group and like things quiet leading into the race.” In all Tigertown showcased 9 elite runners on the streets of Liberty Center and a great 5K course. Results show as 35 runners were under the 18 minute finish time and a representative from Dave’s Running Shop titled Liberty Center as a “premier course” for competition.

Race Week Update (Saturday, July 23rd)

We do our very best to keep you updated with traffic changes and construction that may effect your travels for the Tigertown 5000!

1.) With easy in/out into Liberty Center via the new State Route 24 (exit 47) very little change has

2.) However, south of the new State Route 24 at the intersection of Henry Co. 424 ( old state route
     24)  and St. Rt. 109, the road will be closed to traffic using this highway.

3.) Parking for the Tigertown event will have "signage" as you near the school from Route 24.

The school district is in the process of building a new facility, we have lost some parking area!
Please plan your travel time accordingly!

4.) There will be NO DRIVING or PARKING in front of the high school!
This is a "new security" measure implemented for your protection! It will be barricaded off...
5.) Be aware that there is a "large volleyball tournament" going on across town! It should not effect
the Tigertown race, but there will be extra traffic in the village that morning.

Welcome May, It's Time to Plan Your Summer Racing!

Thanks to all who visited Angie & Deb & Jeanette at the racing booth at the Glass City Marathon this year! The ladies were busy all day with supporters and newcomers of Tigertown! The GCM was our kickoff for providing one of the most exciting, colorful, unpredictable and fun 5K events in a 3 state area. This year is no exception to the rule as more extras will be on the course and our always exciting door prize giveaways are piling up in the "vault" for you! There are not many 5K races that go to the expense to provide you with a "tech" shirt, let alone offer a "ladies cut" when available to us! For those with the "need for speed" we offer "course record prize money" that's a great incentive to do Tigertown... Then, after you finish your 1st or one of many Tigertown races our "food specialists" provide a runner's "dream buffet" to participates before the awards presentations. It's time to mark your racing calendar and sign up for the 2016 Tigertown 5000 isn't it?
